The average American consumes 2,700 calories per day, at an average cost of $.01 per calorie. Thus, it costs about $27.00 per day to consume 2,700 calories, or $9,072.00 per year.
Conversely, the average American earns about $30,000.00 per year, which equates to $15.62 per hour, or $.26 per minute, based on a 40-hour workweek.
Therefore, it takes the average American just under 2 hours to earn their daily calories, and just under 4 months of work to provide their calories for the year.
However, Americans consume an average of 500 more calories per day than is necessary for health and vitality. These 500 calories are generally stored as fat. (3,500 calories = 1 pound.)
$7.00 per day, based on working 5 days per week, is spent on calories that are not needed ($35.00 per week, $140.00 per month, $1,680.00 per year). Thus, the average American works an approximate 27 minutes more per day, 135 per week, 540 per month, 6,480.00 per year, at $.01 per calorie, to pay for calories that are not even being used. In other words, Americans are working 108 hours, or 13 days per year, to pay for a daily overdose of 500 calories.
(27 minutes per day x $.26 per minute x $.01 per calorie = 500 calories.)
By not working the additional 27 minutes per day, or 13 days per year, we won't have the extra $7.00 per day, or $1,680.00 per year, to pay for the additional 500 calories per day, or 168,000.00 per year.
Thus, by not spending 27 minutes at work we will not only lose 1 pound per week, we'll be able to take 13 more days off of work per year!
It gets better. Because we're taking 13 days off of work per year, and the average American uses 1,000 calories per day to perform their job, or $10.00 per day, we save $130.00 by taking 13 days off. Add that to the $1,680.00 savings, and that's $1,810.00.
Just imagine the money you would save, and the weight you would lose…if you quit your job!
